Ocean Week - Ocean Voices

To celebrate Ocean Week, Mme Meloni, Italian Teacher at the LFCG initiated a symposium endorsed by the Marine Conservation Society UK. Ocean Voices, a virtual symposium about the future of our oceans and seas was part of an Erasmus + Project on "Exploring the Sustainable Development Goals", awarded to the Lycée.

In this project, the LFCG has been associated with three schools respectively based in Siena (Italy), Istanbul (Turkey) and in Völklingen (Germany). Pupils have been involved since November 2020 in the project exploring Sustainable Development Goals to become ambassadors of a more ecological, just and social world, starting by reflecting on individual behaviours and on how action can start in the small everyday life changes anyone can operate (click here to read article on Erasmus+ project)

Fernando Montaño, former Soloist of The Royal Ballet and one of Marine Conservation Society UK's ambassadors, helped Mrs Meloni gather an amazing group of experts from diverse walks of life to be the panellists for a presentation and a Q & A session.
All pupils from the LFCG and three other schools involved  in the Erasmus + project enjoyed attending the symposium which was hosted by Mr Montaño.

The morning was insightful. Participants and guests were appreciative of the opportunity to reflect on a global issue and on the solutions everyone, whatever their age and experience, can contribute.

Marine Conservation Society UK
Thank you to Fernando, Ernestina [Mrs Meloni, Italian teacher at LFCG] and Mary [Langford - Marine Conservation Society UK Ambassador]. The questions from such a young audience were ace. All were so serious and earnest in their responses. Clearly the student audience is switched on and, I have in the past, on the odd occasion, seen school age students be a little underestimated. So, superb - well handled, the tone was perfect.

Istituto d'Istruzione Superiore G. Caselli - Siena, ITALY
Thank you so much for the great opportunity you gave us! Very interesting!

All the best from the student of Siena.

Istanbul Erkek Lisesi - Istanbul, Turkey
Thank you so much! It was great! It was interesting to hear the guests and watch the videos. A big thank you to the moderator, Fernando Montaño.

It is her dream to work to save our oceans, so she is very excited to participate. She is extremely happy to meet Fernando Montaño as well [...] I have only seen Fernando Montaño performing at the Royal Opera House and he has been taking a break. I miss his energy and I am delighted to know that he is using it to help the Oceans together with you. [...]
