Cycle to School Week @ André Malraux

André Malraux primary school took part in the Cycle to School Week programme at the end of September. It is a week-long event where pupils, parents and staff are encouraged to try cycling or scooting to school thus celebrating the huge benefits an active school run brings, including the positive impact it has on children’s health and well-being, on local air quality, and on carbon emissions.

All week long, parents from the APL (the Lycée's PTA) promoted Bike Week. The benefits for pupils, parents and staff leaving the car behind are numerous. To quote a few:

  • cycling to school is enjoyable
  • cyclers arrive at school feeling more energised
  • cycling contributes to the school's physical & mental health and well-being
  • it saves parking time / money
  • pupils become more aware of road safety and feel more independent
  • biking helps protect the environment
  • it reduces traffic around the school
  • it improves local air quality and reduces congestion
  • it helps with budget by reducing petrol costs and gym subscriptions

Many families and staff took part: the bike garage had never been so full! The event was such a success that a second Cycling to School Week is planned for mid-October (with a bike fair and surprises) and that yellow vests bearing the school's logo have been ordered for all those who wish to cycle safely and proudly!
