CM1 open the first letters from their Singapore Penfriends

This year Ms Warren and her CM1 English class have launched, for the first time ever, the exciting project of a writing correspondence in English with the International French School in Singapore (IFS) part of our French Lycées family.

The idea was in discussion for a while, but the pandemic has given birth to the project quicker as the children find themselves with more than just the context of their school in common; they both find themselves learning in the midst of a pandemic and having experienced lockdown and distance learning in different ways.

The children will be writing to each other 3 times this academic year with the first having been sent and delivered just before Christmas. The children have written letters to introduce themselves, their school, their friends and family and what they enjoy doing.

It was such a joy for pupils to receive their first letter today and to discover that in one or two instances they had even been matched with a pen pal bearing the same name as them! Pupils from Singapore were obviously eager to know whether London pupils had met the Queen.

In no time, they will probably be comparing weather conditions and temperatures, which shall be quite contrasting when they next write in February!
