LFCG wins 2022 ISSA Boys Volleyball

The LFCG won the 2022 ISSA Boys Volleyball Tournament in Madrid!

It was very difficult to select the final roster of players to represent the Lycée at this year’s tournament.

The level was very high as the students attend the (AS Volleyball club) all the year round and they play many competitions. The following pupils made the team.

Abel D. (T°4) Adam D. (1°3)
Anatole D. (1°5) Maayan B. (1°7)
Maxime A. (1°8) Nikita M. (T°8)
Orlando G. (1°6) Raphael H. (2°7)
Thibault R. (T°7) Zeno U. (2°6)

Accompanied by their PE teachers, Mr Luis Bello and Mme Lucile Humbert, they spent their half term break playing this tournament where the Lycée has been participating since 1983 with remarkable success.

The competition - which took place during the second week of the half term - was hosted by the American School of Madrid.

9 schools from England, Scotland, Portugal and Spain competed for 3 intense days. (American School of Madrid, International School of London, Southbank International School, German School of London, Aberdeen International School, Oeiras International School, St Dominic’s International School, International Sharing School and Lycée Français Charles De Gaulle).

The Lycée’s team defeated all eight of their opponents across the group stage and then played the semi-final and final games.

LFCG Team only lost one set in the whole competition. But don’t think for a second that it was an easy job. All schools, especially the Portuguese teams, were full of very talented athletes.

The final game was against the Oeiras International School and behind the LFCG’s 3-0 victory hides a very intense match with very close numbers and very long rallies full of technical skills, energy, speed and fighting spirit from both teams.

To conclude a very intense competition, the Lycée Français Charles de Gaulle won the tournament trophy, but we should point out in a prouder way the impeccable and outstanding spirit off court where our students and teachers were extraordinary ambassadors of our school’s sportsmanship and of French education values.

A great international and sports experience for our students!
