Our Italianisti (Terminale & 1ere pupils learning Italian) attended a film screening at the Lycée as part of the Italian Film Festival organised by Cinema Italia UK. This year’s theme being: "Donne di Mafia”.
The film selected from the Festival was "I Cento Passi" a film about a real story presenting the power of women and mothers in the fight against Mafia.
After the screening, pupils and teachers engaged in a discussion and workshop about the topic.
A few years ago, pupils of the Lycée visited the town, Cinisi, when they went to Sicily for a school exchange. They met with Giovanni Impastato, brother of Peppino Impastato who was killed by the Mafia, and they heard about the commitment of their mother, Felicia who dedicated the rest of her life to supporting her son’s belief and his fight against the Mafia.
Both Italian teachers, Mrs Ialenti and Mrs Meloni organised the event because the topic of the Mafia is part of the Terminale curriculum in Italian within the theme of Memory and Territory.
After a short introduction each student received a questionnaire and a CINEMA ITALIA UK booklet, written by Mrs Meloni and published by Edilingua, as part of the workshop. The booklet includes activities for before, during and after the screening.
