This February half-term saw Dr Carsson lead the 8th Annual India Trip to Delhi; it means over 100 Lycee students have now travelled to the sub-continent to experience its majesty and mayhem. The group maximised its experience by fully engaging with the locals, sites and the idea of seva or service. Students performed the latter by bread-making at the Sikh Bangla Sahib Gurdwara and by a range of duties at the Aurobindo Ashram. Over the course of a week, the students navigated the usual array of tombs, temples and markets, and enjoyed the dual warmth of Indian sunshine and hospitality. Along the way, there was a steep cultural learning curve and some insight on Mughal history. Learning or otherwise, the students left Delhi with good memories, stories and photos!
Alexandra : "This experience was eye opening, I learned so much about Indian culture, and made an unbreakable bond with Delhi."
Etienne : "India 2020 was a trip everyone needed, not only to escape the monotony of London life, but to experience a new culture, meandering over a thousand years of shifting power and politics. The imposing tombs of the Mughal empire were set beside modern, bustling roads, serving as a stark reminder of the history that has shaped India. At Akshardam Mandir, a vast, intricate masterpiece, we saw the might of Indian architecture and ambition. The many temples we visited highlighted the importance of faith and spirituality in Indian culture. With countless gods, every branch of Hinduism caters for thousands of devoted followers, who share values of oneness, community living and giving. The immediate warmth and hospitality of the people we met represented the core values of many Indians: treating every human being as equal. It was both refreshing and comforting to be guided through such a new and different environment by such generosity."
Ariane : "Trip of a lifetime, where we learnt so much, with amazing teachers and a great group of people."
Alex : “The India trip was a trip of a lifetime where we got to experience a completely different culture and way of life. Everyone came out of this trip having made new friends and having discovered something new about themselves.“
