Contract: Full time, permanent from 18th November 2023 (or as soon as the vetting procedure is complete)
Role and Key Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will work as part of the school maintenance team and report to the Facilities Manager ensuring that internal and external school facilities are accessible, safe, operational, H&S compliant and aesthetically pleasing where this falls within the remit of the caretaking team.
Main duties:
- Carrying out day-to-day duties according to a daily schedule set by your manager or as per specific requests from the line management. This may include opening and locking of the school buildings, moving furniture, carrying out porterage tasks, delivering parcels/educational deliveries across site, performing building and grounds walk-around, setting up furniture or educational equipment.
- From time to time, assisting with maintenance projects, deliveries or emergency work at one of the school’s three other locations (all in London)
- Picking up supplies from DIY stores
- Ensuring security integrity of the school buildings and grounds
- Carrying out defined Planned Preventive Maintenance responsibilities, including daily maintenance/testing/ checks and filing records as appropriate
- Conducting initial investigation into reported defects/issues, carrying out repairs or reporting to Management
- Responding to emergency situation in a timely manner or as required by the line management
- Being observant for Health & Safety issues and ensuring they are rectified or reported so that adequate actions could be implemented in due course
- Assisting service providers/contractors whilst on site
- Carrying out minor repairs and decoration
- Responsible for ordering and stock control of consumables (paper, washrooms and cleaning consumables)
- Complying with Health and Safety is paramount (securing the area where works is carried out, safe use of equipment and machinery, wearing protective shoes, gloves, hats as required, etc)
Qualifications:
- Although previous school caretaker experience is not essential, the ideal candidate must have previous experience working within caretaking/property maintenance environment.
- Clear driver’s licence is required and so is the confidence to drive a van in London
Expected Skills and Knowledge:
- Interested candidates must have general maintenance skills, knowledge in trade skill (plumbing, electricity, building works) is not essential but would be an advantage
- They must also be able to work flexibly and have the right energy and drive to ensure tasks are always completed as instructed
- Good communication skills in relation to managing interactions with all the school’s stakeholders (pupils, teachers and parents) communicating with external service providers, and reporting deficiencies to Management
- Proactive nature with the ability to work in a team and share knowledge
- Basic command of French as a second language would be highly appreciated although not essential
- Interested candidate should be PC literate or at least able to use emails and Microsoft Office Suite at a basic level
Working hours: 40hrs per week (1600hrs per annum), Monday to Friday from 8am until 5pm according to a timetable set out by your manager.
On rare occasions, you may be required to work outside of your regular working hours including weekends.

Monthly gross salary and benefits: £2,423.70 pm including all allowances
- 15% employer contribution to private pension
- 60 days holiday per annum (pro rata of the contract)
