Save the date: invitation to a history talk with Steve Weiss and Rick Stroud

South Kensington

Dear families of the Lycée,

This year in the British Section History department we have been incredibly lucky to have had numerous guest speakers visit the school to share their stories with our students.  I do hope that some of these stories have made it home and you had a chance to hear about these men and women.  I know that from meeting with parents throughout the year that many people would love to also have a chance to hear these talks. We are organising in an evening this year of History guest speakers. We are delighted that both Steve Weiss and Rick Stroud have agreed to come back for an evening session. This talk will take place at 6.15pm on the 3rd July, during the last week of term.

Steve Weiss fought in Italy and France in WW2 in the infantry of the USA army and wrote the book ‘Second Chance: In Combat with the US 'Texas' Infantry, the OSS, and the French Resistance during the Liberation of France, 1943-1946’. Steve has a unique perspective of being a soldier as a result of his later career as a clinical psychologist. He was awarded the Commandeur in the Order de la Légion d’Honneur in July 2013. Most importantly he is committed to sharing his story and experience, and is delighted about this chance to speak.

Rick Stroud came to us this year as co-writer with another guest speaker Victor Gregg, who had served in the British army in WW2. Rick supported Vic’s talk of his war experience, however it soon became obvious that Rick himself as a published writer had much to contribute in his own right. Rick has recently written ‘Lonely Courage’, the story of women recruited by the SOE and sent to France to work with the French Resistance.

A final point, this evening is being organised by the History department and a group of students who are fundraising for a charity project trip to Nepal with Mrs De Silva.  This is the second opportunity for Lycee students to travel to Nepal to support the work of Global Action, a UK charity that supports the Nepal based charity Practical Action Nepal. We are selling tickets for £2 each and all proceeds will go the students fundraising. Please complete the form below and return it to Miss Fletcher, or contact by email: tickets will also be available at the door.

We do hope that you are free and that you will join us.  Please feel free to invited extended family members or friends.
