The Role of Women during WW1: An Evening of Poetry for the 3e SI

On Thursday 9th November, eight 3ème International Section students took part in an evening of poetry and prose held at the Town Hall of the Royal Borough Kensington and Chelsea to mark the centenary years of the First World War. This year, the centenary of the formation of both the Women’s Royal Naval Service and the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps, the evening focused on the role of women during the First World War. Our students worked on recently discovered letters written by two English sisters, Marcia and Juliet Mansel, who joined the Voluntary Aid Detachment and served as nurses on the Western Front. Both sisters won the French Croix de Guerre for their services in the First World War.
